Want to add some flash to tired old soloing phrases?
Try spicing them up with legato!
Legato is a great way to add an extra flourish to a lick.
The term “legato” means playing something “in a smooth, flowing manner without breaks between notes.”
This is the kind of sound we can achieve with multiple hammer-ons and pull-offs.
When we pick multiple notes on a string – the contact of the pick to the string (no matter how fast) will cut off the sound of the previous note.
When we play something using multiple hammer-ons and pull-offs, we don’t experience that sound – instead we get the sound off one note coming right after another.
