Some people get so caught up with what they’re struggling with that they let it derail any further attempts at improving.
I’ve had some people come to me telling me they’d like to improve their lead guitar, when I ask them how their lead guitar ability currently stands, they say something like:
“Oh, I don’t do any lead guitar playing at all. You see, I tried it a few years ago and wasn’t any good at it so I stopped trying.”
I sometimes reply with something like “of course you were no good at it, you were trying it for the first time – no one’s good at anything if they’re trying it for the first time and have had no prior experience with it.”
You’re going to come up against obstacles and challenges all the time with your guitar playing, no matter how good you get.
Because of this, the best thing to do is learn to enjoy the challenges and stay focused on what you want to achieve.
