Let’s talk about fast alternate picking riffs.
Fast alternate picking is a staple of metal rhythm guitar and is an important technique for any aspiring metal guitarist.
Like anything fast, building up the speed required to play fast alternate picking riffs takes time.
The best thing to do is to put your metronome on at a slow to medium tempo and apply alternate picking to the low E string using 8th notes.
Once you become reasonably comfortable with this, you can increase the alternate picking to 16th notes.
Working up your alternate picking this way will also teach you to be able to play controlled 16th notes along to a fast tempo instead of blasting out alternate picking with no rhythm in mind, hoping it works.ᅠ
