Solo Like Mark Knopfler
Today we are going to be learning a lick in the style of one of the most musically versatile guitar players in rock, Mark Knopfler.
Mark Knoplfer is celebrated as the lead guitarists and singer of the English rock band Dire Straits and is renowned for his inventive mixture of country, jazz, blues, Spanish and rock guitar playing.
Mark has enjoyed a long and successful career with Dire Straits and as played and recorded with the likes of Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Phil Collins, Sting, Bob Dylan, Chet Atkins, Emmy Lou Harris, George Jones and Kris Kristofferson.
His lead guitar playing is characterised by country style phrases, soulful blues rock licks, melodic use of the minor scale and minor arpeggios and jazzy use of modes.
Today we will be exploring some of Mark Knopfler’s signature techniques with a lick in the key of D. So plug in, tune up, crank that amp all the way up to 11 and let’s get started!
