Private Electric Guitar Lessons

Face-To-Face Lessons in Brunswick – WEDNESDAY

(afternoon/evening)

Zoom Lessons – FRIDAY

(afternoon/evening)

Are you unhappy with your electric guitar playing and want to get better?

Then my private lessons are for you! These lessons are for electric guitarists who would like to play guitar solos or improve exisiting soloing ability, learn riffs and how to play them in time with the metronome and other musicians, learn power chords and barre chords or improve their ability to play them, understand music theory and improve their picking and fretting technique.

Each lesson we’ll work on the theoretical and practical concepts required to help you play guitar the way you want and become a well rounded electric guitarist. The lessons are tailored to your playing goals and needs.

Before you know it you’ll be playing cleaner and faster, be able to play scales and use them for improvising solos, be able to play riffs, barre chords and power chords in time, have a better understanding of music theory and use techniques like bending and legato.

Unlike learning online or from YouTube, you’ll receive a step by step path based on your skill level, practice accountability and personalised feedback to help you get better instead of causing you to feel you confused and overwhelmed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get in touch to book a free trial or ask questions?

Fill out the form at the bottom of the page. When I receive it, I’ll give you a call to chat about your current playing ability, what you’d like to achieve and answer any questions you have. We can also talk about a time to book your free trial.

How long are lessons?

The lesson lengths you can choose from are 1 hour, 45 minutes or half an hour.

Are lessons every week?

You can choose to have your lessons every week or every second week depending on what works best for you.

How much do lessons cost?

Lesson prices vary depending on how long you want your lessons to go for, how frequently you choose to have lessons and whether you’d like to have Zoom or face-to-face lessons. It’s best for us to discuss this during our call, if you tell me your budget I can help you choose something that works best.

Where are face-to-face lessons located?

I run face-to-face lessons from a studio in central Brunswick. I can give you the address to the studio during our call after you fill out the inquiry form.

What do I need for Zoom lessons?

All you need is a computer, webcam and an internet connection, you can even use a phone or tablet if you prefer. All you need to do is sit in front of your camera so I can see you, your guitar and your hands and have your amplifier close by so I can hear it through the mic. It doesn’t need to be loud for this.

Can I study with you if I’m still a beginner

Of course. That being said, I run an adult beginner electric guitar course so that might be a better option if you’re just starting out.

Will you also teach me to play faster and cleaner?

Yes. These lessons will also focus on technique to help you play faster and more accurately.

Will you help me improve my hand strength for bending?

Yes. These lessons will focus on technique to help you play bends and vibrato with more ease and control.

How long before I can improvise solos?

That depends on your current ability level and how much you apply yourself between lessons. But we can start working on what you need to know in order to improvise solos quite soon after starting if that’s your goal.

Will you make me read music?

No. I will teach you to read rhythm but we’ll be working from tab, not notation.

Do you teach kids?

No. I only work with adults because they’re more dedicated students.

What students are saying

I have been playing guitar for the best part of 17 years, after 3 months of lessons with Dean, I have corrected bad habits, learned to solo properly and proficiently and am so much more confident around the fretboard!

– Jesse

Dean is a great tutor, he is extremely knowledgeable and patient, overall the experience is enjoyable and tailored to my needs. Under Deans guidance I have made genuine progress with my guitar playing.

– David

After years of searching, I’ve finally found the guitar teacher I’ve been looking for! The exercises and activities are challenging yet achievable and have helped me make real progress. Dean is a great guitarist and a caring, knowledgeable and thorough guitar teacher whom I have great confidence in recommending.

– Denis

Dean is a knowledgeable and patient guitar teacher. He is methodical in his approach and focuses on the fundamentals. The weekly sessions build upon the previous progressively. I have been learning from Dean for 2 months now and feel I have improved a lot since I started learning from him. I can’t wait to see what I will be able to do down the road.

– Jay

I’ve searched high and low for a guitar teacher like Dean. He is very good at laying down foundations and building upon learning. He demystifies the guitar. There’s no meandering in these lessons because he is organised and knows what he is instilling in the student, so every minute is purposeful and practice time is progressive. I thoroughly appreciate his knowledge of the instrument and guitar theory as well as his chops as a teacher.

– Mikael

I can confidently say lessons with Dean are well worth it! After some time trying to teach myself and never really getting anywhere I finally decided to start getting lessons and chose to contact Dean as he was interested in and taught the music I knew I wanted to play. After just a couple of months of lessons I am playing guitar much better than I ever have done in the past and learning much faster. Dean teaches at a good pace with new things introduced at the right time to keep you challenged.
