Must See Melbourne Rock Band:
Smoke Stack Rhino
If your soul is stirred by the haunting sounds of the Chicago blues and your heart beats for the palpable riffs of Led Zeppelin and the psychedelic songcraft of Jimi Hendrix, then Melbourne’s alternative blues rock ambassadors Smoke Stack Rhino are your kind of band!
Comprised of the blues harp, keys and lead guitar of Ash King the slap and pop of bassist Shane Andison, the smokey vocals and rhythm guitar of Dave Sirianni and the uncompromising power of drummer Jeremy Berg, Smoke Stack Rhino cast a 21st century hat tip to the raw blues of Howlin’ Wolf and Buddy Guy and pay homage to the lasting legacy of the rock n’ roll greats.
Since the bands formation in 2013 the lads have supported Australian blues giants Phil Manning, Geoff Achison and Jimi Hocking, launched a debut EP to a full house at Melbourne’s rock n’ roll vatican The Cherry Bar, and gained consistent airplay on Triple J.
Though the departure of original vocalist Ben Lawoko-Leaney threw a spanner in the Rhino’s rock n’ roll works, the band pressed on undeterred executing a high-octane set at the Bendigo Blues & Roots Festival and recruiting lead vocalist and rhythm guitar player Dave Sirianni.
Since then the band have headlined the Arockalypse Music Festival in Warrnambool, supported fellow rocker’s Jackson Firebird at the Bendigo Blues and Roots Festival and played packed shows all over Melbourne.
In August 2015 Smoke Stack Rhino made public they are heading into the studio with revered Melbourne producer Beau McKee to record their debut album scheduled for release in 2016.
It is this relentless work ethic accompanied by undeniable talent and a phenomenal blues rock sound that have established Smoke Stack Rhino as one of Melbourne’s must see local rock bands!
